Elegance in black & blue
Lara Hooper, the baker of the best mini cupcakes in Cape Town. The first time I saw these mini cupcakes, there were only 4 left at Lara’s stall, so I bought them all. As there were 7 of us, I could not offer it to our friends and was lucky to take the box back home intact. Me and my husband ate the delicious cupcakes as soon as we got home.

The Summit Closet
This South African accessory label launched in 2010 has already a lot to
talk about! Considered one of the 20 reasons to be in South Africa by Wallpaper*
Magazine, where the designer Cindy Pool described her range of products as “a
unique twist on an age-old staple”. The designer is inspired by old
craftsmanship, leaps in technology and fabrication considering her collections
as “Nostalgic Futuristic”. Pool re-creates old product designs contributing to
an evolved and innovative creation of unique and charming accessories. The
current collection includes a wide range of leather belts that refute the
buckle, suspender bowties, the lapel scarf, the bicycle sling bag, luggage bags
and several leather stationary.
The label pays a tribute to tradition whilst embracing innovation. Cindy
Pool designs for the gentleman we are used to see in old black and white movies
or characters of an old book and ads this “futuristic nostalgic urban edge”
every city man has nowadays. “‘The Summit Man’ dresses appropriately,
respecting the relevant context in which he is currently in. These men do not
all look the same, and in fact desire to infuse their choice of wares with
their personal individuality and a flair of difference”.
Although the designer focus is on men as her main target, she considers
that “design according to gender distinction is to a large extent quite
absurd”, and the truth is that all her accessories can be easily used by a
stylish man or woman.

The Old Biscuit Mill, Cape Town
Silas
Silas, my first victim! I run 5 steps chasing Silas saying in a shy
voice “Excuse me, excuse me…”. When he finally stops and turns around, I ask if
I can photograph him for my blog, explaining what it is for and with a very
admired face he asks “Me, you want to photograph me?!”. After I said yes he
starts smiling like a little boy that have just received a gift and asks “Where?!”
We just came down the stairs, I pulled my camera and “tschuk”, my first photo
is wrapped and ready to post :)
